Netflix is the most popular media streaming service on earth. There is no doubt that the TV and Movie options available to the United States has the best selection, but what about the rest of us?
Lately many VPN and Proxy services have failed to work with Netflix, with many resulting in an error: “You seem to be using an unblocker or proxy." This seems to be a part of Netflix's ongoing battle against VPN and other services from preventing access out of region.
Thankfully for those of us in Australia (or anywhere, really!) we have found a service that still seems to be working well, and has been for the past 12 months.
You need two things to get started:
- Smart DNS Proxy account
- Netflix account
Smart DNS Proxy provides a simple solution that tricks Netflix into thinking you are actually located in the US region. You can easily activate and deactivate this service once subscribed, so if there is content only available in Australia it's simple to flip between the America US and Australian offerings (see below screenshot).
The good news is you can sign up for a Netflix account from any region. Your existing Australian Netflix account will work fine for this -- all we need to do is configure our DNS once you have a Smart DNS Proxy account setup.
Smart DNS Proxy has a great section of guides for almost any device that will help get you started. They also offer a VPN service if you'd prefer to go this route.
Note that this is correct as of the time of last update (3 Jan 2018). I personally use this service to access US Netflix content in Australia and will update it if this ever changes.
